YUTHOK LING TEMPLE
Yuthok Ling at Pure Land Farms is the first temple in the West dedicated to the Yuthok Nyingthig tradition. Yuthok Ling acts as the spiritual counterpart to our Sowa Rigpa Institute: School of Tibetan Medicine. Together they represent the union of dharma and medicine, which can be practiced separately or together in perfect harmony, for the benefit of self and others.
Located on the highest point of the land, Yuthok Ling is a sanctuary of peace and healing energy. A life size statue of the 12th century yogi-physician, Yuthok Yönten Gönpo, known as the father of Tibetan Medicine is the center-piece of the temple. Behind the temple is our Gönkhang (protector chapel), housed in a traditional Amdo, Tibetan yurt and dedicated to Shanglon, the special medicine protector of the Yuthok Nyingthig tradition.
At Yuthok Ling we host regular small group retreats, teachings, and guided group practice sessions as well as seminars and cultural events.
In the spirit of Yuthok Yönten Gönpo, a great non-sectarian teacher, students and practitioners of all lineages are most welcome to take part in the practices offered here. YUTHOK NYINGTHIG
The Yuthok Nyingthig, the ‘Heart Essence of Yuthok’ is a unique and comprehensive set of Tibetan Buddhist practices transmitted by Yuthok Yönten Gönpo the Younger, the great 12th century Tibetan physician and meditation adept who is considered to be an emanation of Medicine Buddha. It is a complete system of practice from the Anuttarayogatantra (Highest Yoga Tantra) class of teachings, beginning with Ngöndro (the preliminaries) and progressing through Kyerim and Dzogrim (Creation and Completion Stage practices) to the highest practices of Mahamudra and Dzogchen.
The tradition includes concise and essential methods perfectly suited for busy contemporary practitioners that offer both worldly benefits including improved health and longevity for oneself and others, as well as the ultimate benefit of complete spiritual liberation. The Yuthok Nyingthig is the main spiritual tradition connected with Sowa Rigpa (Tibetan medicine), and it contains many unique methods to heighten the intuitive, diagnostic, and healing capacities of doctors. It is the only complete cycle of Vajrayana teachings in which Medicine Buddha as a yidam (personal meditative deity).
Yuthok Nyingthig meditation practices are traditionally done in the context of a seven day retreat, making them practical and accessible in these modern busy times. Seasonal Yuthok Nyingthig guided group retreats are held in our Yuthok Ling temple at Pure Land Farms so that students may be guided through the progression of Yuthok's practices by qualified teachers. Online retreats and practices are also offered regularly.
