Community Celebration & COMF Fundraiser
Join us at Pure Land Farms to celebrate the 95th birthday of the great Dr. Leon Hammer, and honor the work of this pioneer in the field of Chinese Medicine in America.
This will be an informal and celebratory community gathering, bringing together students and practitioners in the field of Asian medical sciences, with short presentations about Dr Hammer’s work.
All donations will go directly to Dr. Hammer’s foundation, Contemporary Oriental Medicine Foundation (COMF) in order to support their goal to preserve, promote, and further the ideas and teachings of Dr. Leon Hammer, MD, specifically by funding the writing and publication of a series of four books:
- Contemporary Oriental Medicine Concepts (published in 2018);
- Contemporary Oriental Medicine Methodology (release date on August 20th);
- Lifestyles (co-written By Oliver Nash, final editing stage); and
- San Jiao (content development stage)

Born on August 20, 1924, Dr. Leon I. Hammer, MD has dedicated his life work to developing the teachings of Chinese Master Dr. John H.F. Shen into a comprehensive yet easily accessible system of Contemporary Oriental Medicine (COM), including Shen-Hammer Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis. In addition to his scholarly contributions to the profession, Dr. Hammer was an influential pioneer in solidifying the acupuncture profession in the United States and worked to get the first practice acts passed in New York State.
